back on track

I went to the gym today, and I am starting my food journal up again.  If you have the time to do one of these, I would highly recommend it.  It can be a bit tedious, but seeing what you eat put down on paper can really help you control portions better.  Not to mention, for me at least, its a bit of a wake up call to see how bad the stuff I eat really is for me.  After taking note of my food I realized that a dip I commonly eat has 20 grams of fat per serving!!! I think that’s how much fat I am supposed to consume in my entire day.  I also discovered that my heart-healthy margarine (which I don’t eat often) has 11 g of fat per serving.  I was floored by some of the things I am putting in my mouth. I am hoping to keep up with the journal thing this time, its not always easy but I think it will do me a lot  of good in the long run.

rough week

So its been gloomy and raining all week and so far I have only managed to make it to the gym once.  I feel awful about it.  Surprisingly, for only having gone for about a week, I can really notice the difference in my energy this week.  I’m really sleepy a lot of the time.  I promise to do better on this.  I’m going to try to go tomorrow and sunday, so at least I will get in 3 days of work outs for the week.  I’m trying to get a better grip on my eating so I went back to using the weight watchers points system.  I used it a long time ago to help me loose weight and did really well.  I was pretty surprised to find out that I only have 17 points to work with a day, and looking at the food I’ve been eating, it’s way more than that.  I’m sure that I will get adjusted to it soon enough.  If anyone has any ideas on some low point foods let me know, I have been living off of shrimp, salad and boneless skinless chicken breasts for 3 days and I’m looking for some variety :D Good luck to everyone on the weight loss.  Keep it up! We are in this together and I am there for anyone who needs support.

Birthday gift to myself :)

A 4 pound weight loss this week!  It has been so hard not to step on the scale this week and see how I’m doing.  It was well worth the wait though when I stepped on the scale this morning.  I’m so glad I actually lost something cause I know in the past when I started exercising and didn’t lose I got discouraged and stopped working out.  Workouts are good.  I was a little slow this morning so I didn’t get as good of a workout as I usually do, but it was still important that I go. I struggle with the food still.  It’s not that I eat a lot, I just eat the wrong foods.  I now that I need to get this in check but with birthday dinners this weekend, its not exactly a great week to start.  I did eat at Hu-Hot today though which isn’t bad cause you can get a ton of veggies, leave out the pasta, and just use a little oil and a lot of broth to flavor everything :) I hope everyone’s weekend is off to a great start!

Fun new toy coming soon :)

So the Nintendo is coming out with a cool new gadget for the Wii gaming console.  It’s called the “Wii Fit” and it is supposed to be coming out sometime in may (at wal-mart, from what they tell us now).  So this thing is like a new wii controller that is going to go with games that let you do yoga, dance classes, etc.  I am not sure how it works cause we haven’t gotten to demo it yet but it sounds pretty cool.  Thought I would post this cause I thought if your a big kid like me, or if you have kids yourself, its kind of a new fun way to stay active :) I will probably update this later if it seems like people are interested about more info.  Other than that…the workouts are going good.  Had to work today early so didn’t get a chance to go to the gym, but I will be going first thing tomorrow morning.   Gotta get that workout in before the heartbreakers weigh-in tomorrow night ;) Thanks to all my buddies for the support and keep up the great work everyone

tips needed

Day two of workout and still going strong :) I have a new found respect for people who live in places where it rains a lot, cause it seems a lot harder to get motivated when its dark and gloomy outside.  So everything in my workout is going good for me except for working my abs.  Aside from basic crunches (which do nothing for that lower pooch I have), I don’t really know of anything else to do to work out my stomach.  So, if anyone knows of some good workouts for that area let me know! Thanks for all the help, and keep losing everyone.  You’re doing fantastic!

yay! first workout

I am so proud of myself for actually getting out of bed this morning and going to the gym.  I learned that I need to start going to bed earlier :) Overall, I think I had a really good workout.  I sweated enough that’s for sure!  I know I will be sore tomorrow, but it is totally worth it.

oh no!

I admit that I haven’t weighed myself in quite a long time.  I couldn’t believe that I stepped on the scale and my weight rocketed up to 240 pounds.  A year ago I weighed at least 50 pounds less than that.  Although it was a real shock (and a huge disappointment), its the boost that I needed.  After months of putting off going to the gym, tomorrow I am actually going to start going again.  I would hate to think that my life is being cut short because I can’t seem to get out of bed.
